Since there was no clipping masks, I had to rearrange layers to give my desired effect. This to me feels more organic in a way, having to draw from the BG up without having the freedom of clipping. As great as the interface is for the market, the layer system got me confused. Although it is great for processing power, and having comparison layers, it doesn’t give a more extensive option like photoshop does.Īlthough it’s safe to say that creating this drawing was a daunting task. Collapsing all the layers into 1 gives freedom too delete all previous layers to just work on the one layer, which can be handy for laptops that can’t process to many layers at one time. I also found the color balance to be handy as well. So from there, I blocked in my colours, then started to add some lighter fur around the muzzle and give her dark arms.Īlthough it is a bit difficult to see, the right image has a color balance on top. It all fits perfectly inside the line art which leaves less mucking around as you would in PS (having to remove or mask in the appropriate colors so they don’t bleed out from the lines). What Krita offers is a more stabler way of colouring, and in stable I mean not having various layers that can lag your PC. I tend to like working in clipping masks as I can adjust each coloured layer differently, which can add up in lag as the file gets larger. This allows users to block colors out, split the layers so each individual color is in it’s own layer, and automatically locks the transparency so you can start adding form, neat right!įor my bear I only used 2 colours, the main bear and the background, this was due to clipping masks, which you can see in my PSD file, I use a LOT of. ![]() It also features a way to separate colors when they’re all in 1 layer which is amazing. What this program offers for coloring lineart is exactly what I would expect for cartoons and blocking out colours easily. I actual found the process of coloring the linert way more helpful than doing it in PS. It goes through coloring lineart to doing the final render. This tutorial (in referencing) has helped me from start to finish while doing this drawing. It took me a while to get use to this but it wasn’t to difficult to navigate, it’s just a lot cleaner in Photoshop. Having all the options under the layers looks clumpy and is messy. It is far easier to see which layers are visible as well. I find that having the the interface set out as it is in photoshop is more cleaner and easier to read and navigate. ![]() What made it confusing was that all the controls for it were under the layers, which in Photoshop, are on the top. The layer system was really confusing to me at first so I looked at a few tutorials that didn’t really help much, expect one. ![]() It’s no photoshop but for a free creative software, it’s great!Īs soon as I opened the program it didn’t seem to difficult to navigate through at all, that’s until I actually tried to figure out how to draw. So I had the pleasure of trying out a PS alternative called Krita.
